The Olympics 2008 started with much fun fare on Eighth day of the Eighth month in Eighth year of the century at Eight minutes past Eight.

Just see the reports appearing in Khaleejtimes.com on August 10, 2008 about the Indian team at Olympics. The last line clearly mentions that not even a single medal is expected from them.

I was just reading timesofindia.com online and simply clicked on Earth link.  Im not putting a link here, go to timesofindia.com and search, its at the bottom, but it should be on top and bold too.

There were several options of saving the earth. Some of them were just too easy, like pulling out your chargers from socket while not charging, covering the food with plastic before keeping into fridge, switching off the monitors when not in use, instead of putting up a screen saver and like them, many are there.

Really, if used we can contribute though very little it may seem to us.

Boond boond pani bharta hai :)

Can India Count on You February 16, 2008

India has huge plans for 2008. Can India count on you?

We are not talking about you going to the front and fighting a war. Not
about you becoming the next Mother Teresa and dedicating your life to the
underprivileged. Not about you getting elected to parliament and creating
national policy. We are talking about the small little things that you can
do as an Indian. We have come up with a few of these small little things
that you can do in 2008. Read on and let India know if India can count on
you
.

January:

Beginning from this month, India needs to cut its emissions in 2008 by 5% to
safeguard the environment. Can we hope that every once in a while you will
not drive to work and instead use public transport?

February:

At the young age of 22, Lt. Saurabh Kalia laid down his life fighting the
enemy in Kashmir. Like him about 500 soldiers die every year guarding our
borders. In 2008 can you spend 10 minutes to learn from the Internet on the
life and death of at least one of these men?

March:

If you live in a city, chances are that 15000 women shall be eve-teased on
the roads of your city in 2008. This month as we celebrate Women’s Day, can
we count on you never to remain a mute spectator when this happens in front
of you?

April:

In the new financial year which starts from this month, India is aiming for
a 10% growth in its economy. Can India count on you to pitch in?

May:

This summer 60% of Indians will go without adequate water, a problem that
can be corrected with a slight reduction of usage by the remaining 40%. Can
we count on you to spend 2 minutes less in the shower everyday?

June:

An affluent in India has 15 times the clothes that an underprivileged needs
to cover himself with dignity. Can India hope that in 2008 you will donate
at least that one shirt lying in your cupboard which you haven’t worn in the
last 1 year?

July:

Next month 200 Indian athletes shall be participating in the Beijing
Olympics. They need our support. Even the ones who will participate in the
wrestling event. Can we hope that you will sit up at 4am in the morning to
watch them on TV and cheer them on?

August:

You may not have done anything for India so far this year, but my fellow
Indian, this is August. Can India count on you to at least stand up on the
15th and sing the national anthem?

September:

If each Indian teaches just one illiterate person to read and write in 2008,
there would not be a single illiterate left in India. This month in which we
celebrate Teachers Day, can India count on you to teach at least one Indian?

October:

India regularly makes it to the list of most corrupt countries. Beginning
from this month in which we celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, can we hope that you
refuse to pay a single bribe even if it’s for just 5 rupees?

November:

Roads in India are the most dangerous in the world with 100,000 people being
killed every year in road-related accidents. Can India in 2008 count on you
to rebuke your taxi or bus driver every time he speeds?

December:

It’s December now. Even if you haven’t done a single thing the entire year,
India still hopes it can count on you in 2009. You may give up on India.
India refuses to give up on you.

THERE ARE BIG THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR INDIA IN SOME VERY SMALL WAYS. CAN INDIA
COUNT
ON YOU?

JAI HIND.
